When I was young I had a hard time verbally communicating myself to others. People with processing issues, especially auditory processing like myself, often struggle with this. Much later in life I’d discover that I was also dealing with ADHD. Fortunately I was able to find the messages I was trying to send to others through songs. I loved singing and doing community theater shows in my free time, so this was my way of figuring out what I wanted to say. A sad song about a breakup could describe my feelings after a fight with a friend, angsty sound fueled my stressful teen years, and strangely enough a fan song about a videogame villain accurately described my first real heartbreak. As I got older I turned to writing music as well as performing it. It helps to know that there are others out there who understand how you feel, and I’m so grateful for everything that I learned from artists like Green Day, Jonathan Young, Avril Lavigne, and Barbra Streisand to name a few. Those songs are a part of their story, and I want to tell mine.
